MV Agusta Racing with young gun Brendan Clarke piloting the F4 1000R not only made a clean sweep, winning three from three races but also went on to smash the 5 year old Formula Extreme lap record at the second round of the Macarthur Mercedes Benz East Coast Road Race Series held at Wakefield Park, Goulburn on Sunday March 18.
Sunday morning’s 3rd place qualifying didn’t hinder Clarke what so ever leading into the first race. Clarke rocketed off the line into first place by turn one and never looked back controlling the race from then on. Clarke finished 4 ½ seconds in front of Shannon Etheridge (2nd) and Jason Cain (3rd) who were both on Superbike spec YZF-R1’s.
Race 2 was much of the same however this time with Clarke on Pole. Clarke got the jump on the field, leading into the first turn and set about stretching his 3 second lead until he was baulked by a lapped rider allowing Etheridge to close the gap. Clarke maintained his lead until the race was cut short finishing under a red flag. Clarke first, Etheridge second, Cain third.
The icing on the cake came during the last race when Clarke not only beat Cain (2nd) by a massive 8 seconds but went on to break the outright lap record 3 times.
An elated Clarke commented after Race 3, “What a result, I’m really happy, this is what we set out to achieve this round. I wasn’t fazed with this morning’s 3rd place qualifying and I knew we had a bit more up our sleeves as we had very limited track time on the Saturday due to rain to fine tune our bike settings. The F4 R was not only the fastest bike in a straight line, it road across the bumps like they weren’t even there. In race 3 we felt that everything was running smoothly so I went out to chase some fast times and got a new lap record in the process.”
Team boss Steve Trinder added, “Brendan has performed exceptionally well and is now undefeated in 6 races, more importantly, he loves the whole package and the synergy of the team, so, at the rate we are improving with each outing we hope to unleash him and his F4 R in the ASC sooner than we originally anticipated.”
MV Agusta Racing will now be performing testing and practice in the lead up to the 3rd round of the Macarthur Mercedes Benz East Coast Road Race Series to be held at Oran Park on 19th/20th of May, 2007.
